Inspired by the beauty that comes from the unknown, ‘In Praise of Shadows’ is a preserved art piece which celebrates the shadows faded and created in both the living and deceased.
 
A miniature handmade ghost haunts inside a vintage glass dome. Semi translucent and floating at the top of the dome, their presence is illuminated with an included LED spotlight, creating a dramatic display. The best feature however is the ghosts’ haunting blue/green glow when the lights are off and placed in darkness.
 
The glow is enhanced with brighter light (especially sunlight) and a darker surrounding atmosphere.
 
A hollowed and distorted old tree trunk was incorporated to create a natural miniature terrain, set alongside natural minerals, real lichens and tiny florals, all home grown and collected.
 
Carefully preserved and arranged, the plants have not been artificially dyed, but have been treated with a UV resistant coating to help protect the colours which may be exposed to higher lighting to achieve the glow in the dark effect.
 
The dome is a handblown vintage glass, made in Italy.
*The cover is not fixed to the base and can move, so please handle with care and ensure it is not removed.
 
Dome measures approximately 30cm high.
 
The LED light base measures approximately 34cm high and is able to be angled. It has a shiny black perspex base with rubber risers, and is connected via USB – HDMI cord.
